Our journey
What makes us who we are today is rooted in craftsmanship, experience and a passion for quality. Originally founded as Woodworking Solutions in 2005, our story traces back to the 1980s when Dave (Andy’s father) ran a respected fitted furniture company ‘Hobson and Lee’.
Andy, with hands-on experience and natural talent, quickly built a reputation for high-quality, handmade joinery across Yorkshire. Using the finest materials and traditional techniques, he began creating bespoke kitchen and bedroom furniture, blending craftsmanship with modern innovation.
After a decade of designing, manufacturing and installing, Andy converted his workshops into a kitchen showroom, shifting the business from production to design-focused excellence and allowing it to grow.
Today, Andy and Ruth carefully select every brand and supplier, ensuring the highest standards in kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Their commitment to craftsmanship, quality and customer care forms the foundation of our legacy.
Meet the team
Andy’s passion for furniture design and carpentry began in his childhood, working alongside his father, Dave. From an early age, he developed a love for the craft, mastering the tools of the trade. Specialising in living spaces, Andy’s deep knowledge of the company’s product ranges ensures he never overlooks a detail, always striving to enhance his clients' lifestyles and enjoyment.
Ruth’s father was a time-served carpenter, and after their marriage in 2003, Andy and Ruth renovated their first home together. It was a natural progression for Ruth to join Andy in the business they founded, initially known as Woodworking Solutions, now Andrew James.
Peter began his apprenticeship with Andy’s father in 1986 and spent 12 years with Hobson & Lee. With extensive experience in the kitchen and bedroom industry, Peter has worked in every aspect of fitted furniture, from manufacturing to installation.
He now leads all our installation teams, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship and service.
Ethan joined the team in 2017, bringing his expertise in design and project management. With a background in Architecture and Environmental Design and experience designing for European furniture brands, he offers a valuable skill set.
Ethan now specialises in creating high-quality 3D renders to help clients visualise their dream spaces, working closely with Andy on la yout and material selections.
